Policy on using Social Media (including Twitter) concerning unpublished data in talks or posters:
To maintain and foster an environment at the Maize Genetics Conference where colleagues feel comfortable and are encouraged to share unpublished data, Tweeting (or sharing on other Social Media) of all data, results, hypotheses, conclusions, or any other aspects of a talk or poster are not permitted without the expressed consent of the authors. This year authors will be able to give consent when making their abstract submissions. Whether permission has been granted will then be indicated by a blue bird symbol next to their entry in the abstract book, and on their first slide or poster. In the absence of this pre-obtained approval, the only permissible information to Tweet about a talk is the information publically available in the abstract book.
Prohibition of side or project meetings during the Official Program of the Maize Genetics Conference (MGC):
The Maize Genetics Conference Steering Committee (MGCSC) is charged with organizing the MGC and all affiliated activities. The MGCSC discussed and decided to prohibit any group from making a hotel meeting room reservation during the organized sessions of the MGC, including the short talks, poster sessions, or plenary talks. This action was taken to avoid concurrent sessions at the MGC outside of the purview of the MGCSC, which would fundamentally change the meeting and potential interactions among attendees. Groups wishing to organize project or side meetings at the MGC are encouraged to do so on Thursday before the start of the meeting, Sunday after the conclusion of the meeting, or may do so during breakfast, lunch, or dinner during the meeting. However, in the latter cases, the project or group meeting must conclude prior to the start of the next session organized as part of the MGC. This year the lunch breaks will be extended by an additional 30 minutes to provide more time for attendees to connect with collaborators. It is expected that all students receiving financial support to participate in the MGC be in attendance during all MGC sessions.

The Congress venue is the Palais du Grand Large, a modern convention center situated in the heart of the town and in close proximity to the hotels and restaurants. The convention center includes an auditorium, two large, pleasant rotundas with views over the sea and the ramparts of the old town for exhibition and poster presentations and several rooms for committee meetings and catering.

Travelers from other EU countries can enter France without visa. This also true for stays below 90 days for a number of countries including USA, Canada, Israel, Taiwan, etc. However, most visitors from outside the EU must arrange a non-immigrant visitor's visa in advance, usually from a French consulate or embassy in your home country. Transport and Travel
You can travel to Saint-Malo by plane, high-speed train (TGV), ferry or car, or mix these means of transport. The convention center and hotels are walking distance from the train station.

Plane
Paris airports:
Depending on the airline company, you will land at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport (CDG) or Orly airport (Orly), both close to Paris. Then you can either take a connecting flight to a local airport near Saint Malo, or travel to Saint-Malo by high speed train (TGV) , or rent a car (see below for details on these options).
Local airports:
▪ Rennes Saint-Jacques airport has 80 regular connections with major French and European cities. Then it is a 45 minutes taxi drive from Saint-Malo (approximately 150-180 € by taxi) or a 45 minute train journey from the Centre of Rennes to Saint Malo (approximately 10 € train fare). There are 3 flights a day from Roissy CDG to Rennes Saint-Jacques airport.
▪ Dinard/Pleurtuit/Saint-Malo airport is 15 minutes from Saint-Malo and has daily flights from London and Nottingham in the UK.
Due to increased security and border checks, please allow plenty of time for your connection with trains and taxis etc. Please also remember that local airports are quite small so you may have to wait for a taxi particularly in the evenings.

Train
From Paris-Montparnasse railway station:
There are two options here, either get a direct high speed train (TGV) from there to Saint-Malo, or get TGV from CDG to Saint-Malo with a connection in Rennes. TGV from Paris-Montparnasse to Saint-Malo takes 2h15, and about 3 hours when connecting in Rennes.
From Roissy-CDG airport:
▪ TGV from Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport to Rennes (2 or 3 trains a day, #3 hours), with a connection in Rennes to Saint-Malo (#45 min.).
▪ Air France direct bus shuttle to Paris-Montparnasse railway station run runs every 30 min, from 6 am to 10 pm with average journey time 50 min, fare about 17 €.
▪ Paris-Montparnasse railway station may be reached by underground public transportation (RER B to station Denfert-Rochereau, connection to metro line 6, journey time approx. 1 hour)
From Orly airport:
▪ Air France direct bus shuttle to Paris-Montparnasse railway station run every 20 min, from 6 am to 11 pm, average journey time 45 min, fare about 13 €.
▪ Paris-Montparnasse railway station may be reached by underground public transportation (Orlyval train to station Antony, connection to RER B stop in station Denfert-Rochereau, connection to line 6, journey time approx. 1 hour).

Located 400 km from Paris, the drive will take you around 4 hours.

A visit to the City Museum is a must to guide you through the history of Saint-Malo and the stories of its great personalities, history and the evolution of the region.
There are plenty of shops, restaurants and patisseries to really sample the Brittany gastronomy experience. Saint-Malo itself has ample hotels to suit all budgets and requirements, which are mainly to be found in the walled city and along the seafront, all within walking distance of the congress venue.

Currency is easy to get by cash withdrawal thanks to numerous ATM available at the entrance of the banks and post offices, as in railway stations and airports. Change is possible in banks, a few post offices and change offices. Banks are closed during the weekend. In France, cheap purchases (less than 10 or 20 Euros) are usually paid cash. For more expensive purchases, credit card is the most common way to pay.
Shops and Restaurants

Shops generally open on 9 or 9:30 am, close on 12:30, and in the afternoon then open again on 14:00 and close on 19:00. Banks close sooner, around 17:00. Most shops are closed on Sundays.
Restaurants open around noon for lunch, and 19:00 for dinner except the "crêperies" that open all day long. Most of them are closed on Sunday nights and Mondays.
Time
French winter time is UT+1 and French summer time is UT+2. Unfortunately change will occur during the meeting (as for MGC 2017 in Saint Louis …). Clocks will have to be advanced by one hour during the night of Saturday to Sunday (the change is official at 3 am).
