2022 Maize Genetics Meeting Financial Aid:

MaGNET/PUI/DB financial aid applicants: If you apply for a financial aid award then please do not register for the meeting until after you receive notification about whether your application was accepted or not. All awardees will receive a discount code that will waive the registration fee when they do register.

There are five types of financial aid for the 64th Annual Maize Genetics Meeting:

1) Student Hotel Support:

The MGC strives to make meeting attendance accessible to students.

Each year the MGM steering committee works to raise money to support students at the conference. If fundraising efforts are successful as in previous years, then the hotel room for student attendees will be paid for upon check out. To qualify, students need to reserve a single or double occupancy room in the hotel block, register for the meeting, and pay the $150 ($100 for undergraduate) registration fee by Feb. 18, 2022. The hotel room will not be paid for if the student stays at a different hotel. Students who live in the St Louis area and prefer to stay at their own homes are not required to reserve a hotel room. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, financial support will be provided for either single or double occupancy rooms.

In addition to student hotel support, students eligible for the other financial aid awards listed on this page are strongly encouraged to apply for them to have additional costs covered.

2) MaGNET:

Deadline has been extended to January 24th!

The MaGNET Awards program will provide competitive support for attendance at the Meeting, for members of underrepresented groups, as well as for faculty mentors accompanying eligible students. We will accept MaGNET applications from December 13 to January 24th.

MaGNET Awards will cover the cost of registration for the conference. The awardee will be paired with an experienced Maize Mentor, who will help the awardee navigate the conference. During the conference, MaGNET awardees will have opportunities to interact with peers, invited speakers, and will be welcomed by the maize community.

Eligible applicants include: undergraduate students; graduate students; postdoctoral researchers; and early-career faculty and scientists. Applicants must be either citizens or permanent residents of the USA; or employed at a U.S. institution, and should belong to a group traditionally underrepresented in science. First-time conference attendees are encouraged to apply.

3) Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUI)

Deadline has been extended to January 24th!

The PUI award will provide support to attend the Maize Genetics Meeting. We will accept PUI applications from December 13 to January 24th.

This program seeks to recruit and retain scientists from Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) into the maize research community by encouraging their attendance at the annual Maize Genetics Meeting. The program provides an opportunity for awardees to learn about maize genetics through connecting with scientists in the maize genetics community, explore potential collaborations, and develop career contacts.

Eligible applicants include: undergraduate students currently enrolled at a PUI and PUI faculty. Applicants must be either citizens or permanent residents of the USA; or employed at a U.S. institution. First-time conference attendees are encouraged to apply.

4) Disciplinary Breadth (DB)

Deadline has been extended to January 24th!

The DB award will provide support for researchers in plant-related disciplines to attend the Maize Genetics Meeting. We will accept DB applications from December 13 to January 24th.

This program seeks to recruit and retain scientists (advanced graduate students, post-docs, and early-career faculty) from plant-related disciplines into the maize research community by encouraging their attendance at the annual Maize Genetics Meeting. The program provides an opportunity for researchers from diverse disciplines that have potential to enrich the maize community to learn about maize genetics by connecting with scientists in the maize genetics community, explore potential collaborations, and develop career contacts.

Eligible applicants include: researchers (including graduate students, post-docs, and early-career faculty) from a plant-related discipline and undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs from historically underrepresented groups regardless of discipline. Applicants must be either citizens or permanent residents of the USA; or employed at a U.S. institution. First-time conference attendees are encouraged to apply.
