University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was established in 1984 to encourage outstanding women and minority Ph.D. recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California. The current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships, professional development and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity at UC.

Department of Energy Announces Early Career Research Program for FY 2022

the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced it is accepting proposals for the 2022 DOE Office of Science Early Career Research Program to support the research of outstanding scientists early in their careers. The program will support over 60 early career researchers for five years at U.S. academic institutions and DOE National Laboratories.

To be eligible for the program, a researcher must be an untenured, tenure-track assistant or associate professor at a U.S. academic institution or a full-time employee at a DOE national laboratory. The applicant must also have received a Ph.D. within the past ten years. University awards average around $750,000 for five years and national laboratory awards average around $2,500,000 for five years.This program also includes an opportunity for students and postdocs to secure a research grant (graduate) or scholarship (undergraduate). Awardees will have the opportunity to interact with an industry mentor.

Pre-applications are mandatory and are due on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Full proposals will be due on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

Corteva Agriscience - DEVELOPING EMERGING LEADERS AND TALENT IN AGRICULTURE (DELTA)

Corteva Agriscience invites under-represented minority undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdocs, to register for a new two-phased program called DELTA. Ideal participants are interested in a career in agriculture and want to learn more about sustainable and reliable food production.

DELTA is led by members of Corteva Agriscience Research and Development (R&D). It offers eligible candidates an opportunity to participate in a virtual R&D symposium, which will provide a technical overview of the company and a chance to share their research, network and develop soft skills that are essential to any industry career. Register for the symposium here.

This program also includes an opportunity for students and postdocs to secure a research grant (graduate) or scholarship (undergraduate). Awardees will have the opportunity to interact with an industry mentor.

Application and registration deadlines are June 11, 2021 for the symposium and June 15, 2021 for the grant/scholarship.

The purpose of this competitive undergraduate scholarship grant program is to increase the multicultural diversity of the food and agricultural scientific and professional workforce, and advance the educational achievement of all Americans by providing competitive grants to colleges and universities.

NIFA - Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Fields Grant Program (WAMS)
The purpose of this program is to support research, education/teaching, and extension projects that increase participation by women and underrepresented minorities from rural areas in STEM. NIFA intends this program to address educational needs within broadly defined areas of food and agricultural sciences. Applications recommended for funding must highlight and emphasize the development of a competent and qualified workforce in the food and agricultural sciences. WAMS-funded projects improve the economic health and viability of rural communities by developing research and extension initiatives that focus on new and emerging employment opportunities in STEM occupations. Projects that contribute to the economic viability of rural communities are also encouraged.

Who is eligible: The eligibility requirements state that applicants must be: (a) State agricultural experiment stations; (b) colleges and universities; (c) university research foundations; (d) other research institutions and organizations; (e) Federal agencies; (f) national laboratories; (g) private organizations or corporations; and, (h) individuals.
Estimated Total Program Funding: $384,000

ASPB - Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee 2021 Recognition Travel Award
ASPB's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee is offering a limited number of Recognition Travel Awards for students, postdocs, and faculty who are themselves members of groups underrepresented in the US scientific workforce and/or who are directly supporting the education and professional development of students in such groups.

Who is eligible:
Students: (1) Be a member of a US federally designated underrepresented minority group (2) Attend a US high school or US accredited institution of higher education (3) Individuals must be a US citizen or permanent resident

Faculty: (1) Be a member of a US federally designated underrepresented minority group AND/OR (2) Be employed at a US minority serving institution (3) Individuals must be a US citizen or permanent resident

Range of awards: Recognition Travel Awards provide "full ride" fellowships to attend ASPB's annual meeting, which is scheduled to be held this year in Pittsburgh, PA, from July 17-21, 2021 and online.

ASPB - 2021 Women's Young Investigator Travel Award (WYITA)
ASPB is now accepting applications via electronic submission for the Women’s Young Investigator Travel Awards to attend Plant Biology 2021, which is scheduled to be held this year in Pittsburgh, PA from July 17-21, 2021 and online. The goal of the program is to increase attendance of early-career female investigators who are within the first five years of their appointment in academic faculty-level positions, government research positions, or corporate research scientist positions, as well as experienced postdocs.

Who is eligible:
Eligible women must meet these criteria: (1) Member of ASPB (2) Hold a position at an academic, corporate, or government institution.

Range of awards: The Society plans to allot $7,000 to be awarded in increments of $1,000 for this program.
