Policy on using Social Media concerning unpublished data in talks or posters:
To maintain and foster an environment at the Maize Genetics Meeting where colleagues feel comfortable and are encouraged to share unpublished data, posting (or sharing on any Social Media) of all data, results, hypotheses, conclusions, or any other aspects of a talk or poster are not permitted without the expressed consent of the authors. Authors will be able to give consent when making their abstract submissions. Whether permission has been granted will then be indicated by a share symbol next to their entry in the abstract book, and on their first slide or poster. In the absence of this pre-obtained approval, the only permissible information to post about a talk is the information publicly available in the abstract book.
Prohibition of side or project meetings during the Official Program of the Maize Genetics Meeting (MGM):
The Maize Genetics Meeting Steering Committee (MGMSC) is charged with organizing the MGM and all affiliated activities. The MGMSC discussed and decided to prohibit any group from making a hotel meeting room reservation during the organized sessions of the MGM, including the short talks, poster sessions, or plenary talks. This action was taken to avoid splinter or concurrent sessions at the MGM outside of the purview of the MGMSC, which would fundamentally change the meeting and potential interactions among cooperators. Groups wishing to organize project or side meetings at the MGM are encouraged to do so on Thursday before the start of the meeting, Sunday after the conclusion of the meeting, or may do so during breakfast, lunch, or dinner during the meeting. However, in the latter cases, the project or group meeting must conclude prior to the start of the next session organized as part of the MGM. It is expected that all students receiving financial support to participate in the MGM be fully present and in attendance during all MGM sessions.
2024 Maize Genetics Hotel and Travel Information:
This year we have contracted with two hotels near the Raleigh Convention Center. Attendees may book rooms at either hotel, but if you intend to split the cost of your room with someone then you should book at the Sheraton, due to the Residence Inn's inability to process split-payments in their system. Likewise, students who are applying for student hotel support should also book their room at the Sheraton, since the support only covers 1/2 of a double-occupancy room. To help clarify which hotel you should make a reservation with, we have created the below flow chart:
Hotel reservations should be made by February 2, 2024. However, there are a limited number of rooms we have reserved for our room block at each hotel, and so attendees are encouraged to make reservations early.
Transportation Options from the Airport to the Raleigh Convention Center
Taxis, ridesharing, and car rentals are available at the Raleigh-Durham Airport (RDU) terminals. RDU is a quick 18-minute drive to and from the Raleigh Convention Center.
Conference site resources for child and other family care:
The Maize Genetics community strives to include all members wishing to attend and participate in the meeting. We recognize that primary care givers may have difficulties attending and arranging for family care during the meeting to allow their participation. People who would not otherwise be able to attend the meeting should contact Rubén Rellán-Álvarez before January 3, 2024 to discuss possible accommodations we may be able to provide during the meeting to enable you to participate.
International Attendees:
Those international attendees who require letters of invitation to facilitate visa processing may contact the meeting Chair, Rubén Rellán-Álvarez.
To travel to this conference, you may need to obtain a non-immigrant visitor's (or other) visa, usually from a US embassy in your home country. Please determine specific requirements for your country. Relevant information may be found at US government web sites:
